Description

Toonigh Falls Day Paddle

Join us for a guided paddle to explore Toonigh Falls, a seasonal waterfall corridor that feeds into Lake Allatoona. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Lake Allatoona plays an important role in regional flood control, water supply, and recreation. Paddling here provides a unique opportunity to experience how engineered water systems interact with natural watershed processes. As we travel from the open lake into the quieter waters of Toonigh Creek, participants will notice shifts in shoreline habitat, sediment patterns, and surrounding forest ecology.

This paddle is designed for newer paddlers or those looking to build confidence on flatwater. We’ll move at a relaxed pace with basic instruction provided before launch, along with interpretation throughout the trip highlighting the natural and cultural significance of the landscape.

Schedule & Activities

Meeting Location: Olde Rope Mill Park - 690 Olde Rope Mill Park Rd, Woodstock, GA 30188

We will meet at Olde Rope Mill Park boat launch area for check-in and waiver verification. The morning begins with a land-based paddle safety briefing and basic stroke instruction before launching onto Lake Allatoona. From there, we will paddle at a steady, moderate pace toward Toonigh Creek, stopping periodically for interpretation and hydration breaks. Once inside the creek corridor, we will explore shoreline habitat and, depending on seasonal water levels, view the falls area before returning along the same route. The trip concludes back at the launch with a short debrief and equipment breakdown.
