Description

Youth & Family Fishing Day at Constitution Lakes

Saturday May 30, at Constitution Lakes Park (Southwest Atlanta, GA)

Georgia Conservancy is proud to partner with DeKalb County (RPCA) and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) to host a Free Youth and Family Fishing Day at Constitution Lakes Park. This program is designed to create a welcoming space for youth, families, and first-time anglers to experience fishing as both a recreational activity and a gateway into understanding freshwater ecosystems.

Registration for this event is organized by Adult-Youth pairs. Each registration must include one adult and one youth participant. If additional adults would like to attend, they must register with an additional youth. This structure helps us ensure that all participants have access to provided fishing gear and bait, as equipment is limited and supplied at no cost for this program. Exceptions may be made for older youth and young adults, for questions please contact Shaundon Moore, Stewardship Trips Manager for Georgia Conservancy at SMoore@gaconservancy.org.

Official registration for this event is hosted by DeKalb County here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/reel-moments-family-fishing-wgeorgia-conservancy-tickets-1987797596120?aff=oddtdtcreator.

We are co-promoting it here for more visibility.

Plan Your Trip

What Should I Pack:

  • Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing
  • Closed-toe shoes or footwear that can get wet or muddy
  • Water (at least 1 liter per person)
  • BYO Lunch or Snacks
  • Sun protection (hat, sunglasses, sunscreen)
  • Insect repellent
  •  *Note that we will all be fishing along a boardwalk, space is limited for safe casting. Due to this large lawn chairs are not permitted, but if you have a small camp chair that might be feasible. However, all participants should come prepared to stand for a majority of the program.

How Long Is the Event?

The program runs from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Most participants will spend 1.5 to 3 hours actively engaged depending on arrival time and interest.

Accessibility & Terrain:

Our site is wheelchair accessible. But everyone should expect a moderate amount of travel (on foot or wheel) to reach our fishing location. We will be surrounded by numerous tall trees and trail conditions could be muddy depending on the weather.

Weather Contingency

This program will be held rain or shine unless conditions are deemed unsafe by DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs (RPCA).
