Lycoming College invites the Williamsport community and surrounding areas to enjoy a free show in its Detwiler Planetarium on Friday, September 4th.
“5000 Eyes: Mapping the Universe with DESI” is a fulldome show exploring the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) which is creating the most detailed map yet of our nearby universe. Discover how DESI can measure the spectra of thousands of galaxies at once and explore the science behind modern cosmology, including the scientific motivations for mapping millions of galaxies across the cosmos. Then, journey to Kitt Peak National Observatory to see the DESI telescope in action and meet the amazing people from around the world whose work is making this research possible.
This event is free and open to the public, with shows starting at 5 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. To secure your spot, reserve free tickets beginning Friday, August 28th. Doors will open 15 minutes before start of each show. Please note that there will be no admittance after the show begins.
You can find us at the Lynn Science Center, located on the corner of Washington Boulevard and Mulberry Street.
