Events DC is partnering with Bob Geoghan (founder of the McDonald’s All-American Game and The Capital Classic) to host the 2017 Nell and John Wooden Leadership in Coaching Awards Dinner presented by Pepsi to honor this year’s award recipients, Roy Williams, University of North Carolina men’s basketball coach, Brian Boland, USTA head of men's tennis player development and former 4-time national champion at University of Virginia, Steve Turner, Gonzaga College H.S. men's basketball coach, and Jonathan Scribner, St. John's College H.S. women's basketball coach.

Additionally, the Washington Metropolitan Basketball Hall of Fame presented by Hoop Culture will induct Danny Ferry, introduced by David Falk and Walt Williams, introduced by Gary Williams.

The Nell and John Wooden Leadership in Coaching Award, named after legendary UCLA basketball coach John Wooden and his wife, Nell, was created in 2012 to recognize coaches who exemplify Wooden’s “Pyramid of Success” teachings both on and off the court. For the first time, the 2017 event will also recognize DC-area high school coaches who demonstrate “Pyramid of Success” teachings.

Previous Nell and John Wooden Leadership in Coaching Award recipients include: Jim Boeheim (Syracuse University), Dale Brown (Louisiana State University), John Calipari (University of Kentucky) and Mike Krzyzewski (Duke University).
