Raag- Taal was established in 2010 with the vision of enabling cultural dialogue between East and West by sharing Indian performing arts, history and culture with a worldwide audience through instrumental music, singing, dancing, and storytelling.

The philosophy of Raag-Taal is based on the ancient Indian performing arts text the “Natyasastra,” written by Saint Bharata in 2nd century B.C.Raag-Taal follows the ancient dictum that music, dance and drama are components of a single art form. Raag-Taal aims to celebrate traditional performing arts, foster individual creativity and communicate Indian culture’s values and tradition.

Raag-taal has presented a variety of workshops and performances as for educational outreach, including seminars, summer camps, and workshops in Indian classical, folk and contemporary arts forms. The 2019 Raag-Taal program features a large-scale concert at the McConnell Art Center, which includes dance, vocal, and instrumental music, a workshop. The workshop will introduce India’s music and dance through singing, instrumental music (sitar, tabla and tanpura), dancing, using a step-by-step process designed for participants of all ages.
