Brew and 'Cue for Mito

EVENT ENDED

View Details

Description

Brew & 'Cue features Monday Night Brews, barbecue, and silent auction benefiting United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. Proceeds will help support the United Mitochondrial Disease Foundation's mission which promotes research and education for the diagnosis, treatment, and cure for mitochondrial disorders and to provide support to affected individuals and families.

Why Mito? Because of Robert "Graham" Collins. Shortly after Graham turned one, he was diagnosed with an awful mitochondria disorder - Alper's disease. This mitochondrial disease is characterized by developmental regression, seizures, and liver failure - and Graham had all of these symptoms. It is a very rare disease, only affecting less than 1 in every 200,000 people. There is no cure for Alpers' disease and no way to slow its progression. Life expectancy is anywhere from a few months to 10 years. In Graham's case, he passed away 10 weeks after his first symptom. This disease completely changed our lives and as a result, we are determined to make a difference and honor Graham’s life. We believe by advocating for those impacted by mitochondrial disease and fundraising to provide treatment, and ultimately a cure, we can make a difference.
