Georgia Tourism and local partner Savannah Stopover will host the fifth installment in the 2nd annual ExploreGeorgia.org Songwriter Series featuring Kristina Train, Lulu the Giant and Anthony David on Thurs. Nov. 9 at Trinity Church in Savannah. Doors open at 7 p.m., show starts at 8 p.m.; tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. The intimate concerts feature the artists sharing the stage and playing off of one another as they take turns sharing their songs and the stories behind them.

Born in Savannah but based in Atlanta, R&B singer/songwriter Anthony David, a veteran who counts President Barack Obama among his fans, has released six critically acclaimed albums including 2016’s The Powerful Now. Early in his career, he worked closely with India.Arie, who included his song “Part of My Life” on her multi-platinum selling debut album Acoustic Soul, and the pair continued to write and tour together. In 2008, their duet, “Words,” was nominated for a Grammy.

Rolling Stone described Kristina Train as a “smoky voice impassioned enough to floor Bruce Springsteen, Dr. Dre, and Herbie Hancock alike; as well as nomadic enough to nail soul, jazz, hip-hop and roots music.” She’s recorded for Blue Note and Mercury, lived in New York, London and Nashville and returns to her hometown of Savannah to share her confessional songs which draw from the roots of country, soul, gospel, blues, jazz and folk.

Singer, songwriter and upright bassist Rachel Shaner, aka Lulu the Giant, will perform her songs in a rare solo format. Classically trained, she notes that Savannah’s diverse cultural landscape inspires and informs her writing, whether Southern folk, sultry blues or Zeppelin-esque rock. Lulu the Giant released the album, Kingdoms Fall, earlier this year.
