What's better than a summer music festival? A summer music festival planned, promoted and executed by high school students. This summer, a group of 42 high school students from Decatur City and Morgan County are doing something that has never been done before. Using the event and experience as a learning opportunity, these young people are participating in every aspect of event organization.
The students have planned the event to be a family friendly, end of summer bash, including multiple musical artists, food trucks and fun activities for kids.
Proceeds from the event will go to the Reach and Teach foundation. Reach and Teach - 501(c)(3) is an educational nonprofit program that works with high school students to plan, promote and execute a concert on their school campus. Through participation in the program, students not only learn content knowledge but also essential life skills, such as networking, communication and teamwork. Reach and Teach provides students with the opportunity to explore various career paths, build self confidence and find a passion.
