Peach State Opera presents CARMEN by Bizet
Carmen by Georges Bizet
Gypsies, smugglers, and common folk. The original 1820’s setting is in the city of Seville, Spain, and the surrounding mountains. The beautiful gypsy girl, Carmen, is the center of the story. All men are drawn to her, including Corporal Don José. He is so infatuated by her that he gives up his fiancée and deserts his military post in order to be with Carmen. She, however, is more interested in keeping her freedom. Don José is not willing to accept her decision, which proves fatal to Carmen.
Featuring dancers from the Decatur School of Ballet/Decatur City Dance and chorus from the Atlanta Music Project, Clayton State University, and Perimeter College.
The performance is approximately two hours long, in four Acts, and features one intermission after Act II.
Arrive in time for the Pre-Opera Talk at 2:00 p.m., a free informative talk by an opera connoisseur.
