2024 Lower Flint Weekend Paddle

Description

On May 10-12, join the Georgia Conservancy for our annual Lower Flint River Paddle at Rocky Bend Retreat

Located south of Albany in Newton, the Rocky Bend Retreat will be our headquarters for a fantastic weekend exploring a beautiful section of the Flint River.

“Nestled on the shores of the gently rolling Flint River in a quiet corner of southwest Georgia, Rocky Bend Flint River Retreat is the perfect place to leave the hustle-bustle of everyday behind. Whether you are looking for a base camp to enjoy the best hunting and fishing our region offers or you are visiting relatives in the area, our family-owned and operated retreat is waiting just for you."

  • Friday: Join us for a relaxing evening at Rocky Bend Retreat. We'll be welcoming paddlers, setting up camp, enjoying dinner and drinks, and sharing stories around the campfire.
  • Saturday: After breakfast, we will depart for the Radium Springs boat landing just south of Albany and paddle a beautiful 8-mile section of the Flint River. From here we will paddle past the once-famous resort of Radium Springs and see its crystal clear waters mixed with the waters of the Flint. Depending on water levels, along the way, we will see blue-hole springs and limestone outcroppings. We will take out at the Punk's Landing before returning to Rocky Bend Retreat for the evening.
  • Sunday: On Sunday, the folks of Rocky Bend will help to shuttle us and our boats 7 miles upriver via a custom-outfitted pontoon boat before dropping us on a sand bar. We will then enjoy a leisurely float back down to Rocky Bend Park. Once we return folks will pack up and head home.

In-kind donors and local food producers we will be enjoying during our weekend: Steady Hand Beer Co. (Atlanta), ASW Distillery (Atlanta), and Cafe Campesino Coffee (Americus).

Join us on a Georgia Conservancy Stewardship Trip to learn more about important location-specific conservation issues, as well as statewide advocacy opportunities. Our goal is simple: Create a connection between some of Georgia’s most precious places and the people needed to protect them.
